GENERAL INFORMATION
Artvin is an authentic tourism place that contains various tourism values with festivals, traditional architecture, historical churches, fauna and flora riches, castles and arched bridges, green plateaus, black roses, crater lakes placed at highs of mountains, natural virgin forests, mountains heights to 3900 meter arrange order by following each other. The perpendicular sloped long valleys and Çoruh river divide province in two parts.
There are nice trekking parcours with the natural beauties like on Kackar and Karcal mountains. Coruh and Barhal rivers are available for rafting, catamaran and canoe.
Traditional plateau festivals are taking an important place in culture of Artvin and most important part of these festivals are bullfights. At the beginning of plateau season, means May and beginning of June before moving to plateau stockbreeders arrange bullfights in festivals. The purposes of these bullfights are to make a hierarchy between the bulls and prevent them from fights on the dangerous places of plateaus. Before fights horns should be blunted to prevent the bulls injuries. The fight ends with a one of the bull runs away from the fight.
HOW TO GET
By Road: Buses available from Ankara, Istanbul, Izmır and many other cities.
By Air: Erzurum Airport is 226 km and Trabzon Airport is 234 km away from Artvin. Also with the agreement between Turkish and Georgian Governments domestic flights are available from Istanbul to Georgian city Batumi and there is a terminal available in Hopa County of Artvin for the domestic flight passengers. Distance from Batumi to Hopa is 31 km and to Artvin is 100 km.
By Rail: From Erzurum and Kars to Ankara and Istanbul railway is available. Erzurum is 226 km , Kars is 269 km from Artvin.
